Why give?

We are living through a climate and ecological crisis. Increasing biodiversity through our pollinator-friendly methods gives nature a chance to adapt to changing conditions and secures our ability to keep growing food locally.

We don’t get government funding. All of our work is funded by people like you who recognise the importance of both looking after the planet, and providing outdoor spaces to everyone.

The People’s Land Cooperative are part of an evolving Solidarity Economy in Hull that includes other coops like hull Delivery Coop and Cooperation Hull. Together we are proving that people like us can step up to the plate and make the changes in our won communities that we desperately need.

With our immediate start up costs secured - new tools, a cargo bike - we can turn our attention from scraping by, to doing the work we really believe in: planting urban food forests in community spaces.

The sky is the limit. There is no end to rewilding projects, flood resilience adaptations, and permaculture sites that we could undertake across Hull with the backing of the community. We could take on young people as apprentices, teaching them how to grow food, and setting them up in a trade for life.

FAQs

No, we are company limited by guarantee. We are a worker’s cooperative, meaning that we are owned and managed by our workers. Our Articles of Incorporation set out that we must always use our surplus for the benefit of the cooperative and the community.
We charge a base rate of £20 an hour per person for gardening services, with £15 going to the worker, and £5 to the coop. In some cases, such as when working for a person with reduced means, we will waive the surplus and charge £15. We charge £20 for the removal of one tonne of green waste, and we charge all building materials such as skips and compost at cost.

We have £15 million of public liability insurance, which meets the police requirements of most organisations.
